Youth Led Development
At previous World Youth Congresses, held in Hawaii, Morocco and Scotland, young delegates from all over the world pointed out the importance of youth-led development projects to reach the Millennium Development Goals. In Scotland in 2005, the participants produced an action project tool-kit, a manual to help young people to carry out their youth led development projects. World Youth Congresses are mainly focused on global issues like poverty reduction, education or health.
From a European perspective, topics such as migration, integration, nationalism, and east-west balance need to be discussed.
Therefore, we have decided to organise a congress on the European level, which will emphasise the MDGs as well as the aforementioned issues.
Finally, we want to encourage young people to take the action by themselves. Regardless of the type of project that participants dream up, we will provide opportunities for young people to keep in touch with each other by setting up different networks or joining existing organisations. Young people with prior experience will share their knowledge and skills with those who have less experience with youth-led projects. Back home the participants will be expected to spread the MDG awareness, ideas and motivation to the local community.
